Description

A piece I collaborated on with Matt Denes during spring 2012 semester at FSU for our Fabrication/Foundry class, taught by Phil Gleason. The sculpture took about a month to complete, with most of the time being spent bending the pipes (which are 2 inches thick). There is only a manual pipe bender in the FSU sculpture lab, so we had to come up with some very specific strategies to work the bender LOL. In the end though, I feel that this is one of the best pieces that I've ever had the opportunity to work on.

Spectra is a gestural sculpture representing a painter pouring and mixing his/her pigments. In a city with such a great and supportive art community such as Tallahassee, the piece was designed with the community in mind. It was our sincere hope that fellow artists and art enthusiasts who happen upon our sculpture would feel excited about their own art adventures.

The piece, which stands approximately 9 and a half feet tall, is currently installed on the Tennessee Street side of the Fine Arts Building at Florida State University, and will remain there until at least the end of April 2013.

Its really cool. Nine feet tall eh? you should find the money and resources to make a 90 feet tall one. In Manhattan. And make it alive.

Hells yeah.
